Khammam: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is working for uplift of Dalit community with the Dalit Bandhu scheme, said Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar on Friday.
Speaking to Telangana Today, the Minister said the officials were carrying out an exercise for the implementation of Dalit Bandhu in 10 Assembly constituencies in erstwhile Khammam district. As many as 5,000 Dalit families in Khammam district and 500 families in Kothagudem district will benefit from the scheme, he said.
Ajay Kumar said Dalit Bandhu is an ideal scheme for the country aimed at making Dalit financially self-sufficient. “Selection of the beneficiaries is being done in a transparent manner and the grounding of units will begin soon,” he said.
The State government has selected Chintakani mandal in Madhira Assembly constituency for the implementation of the scheme on pilot basis. And it is among the four mandals in the State selected after Huzurabad in Karimnagar.
Ajay Kumar revealed that as many as 4,500 families in the mandal have been selected under the scheme for which the government had allocated Rs 450 crore. An amount of Rs 100 crore is released and deposited in the District Collector’s account.
One special officer has been appointed for each of 25 villages in Chintakani mandal. The selection of beneficiaries and their household survey has been completed. The selected beneficiaries are free to set up units of their interest and in their preferred sectors anywhere in the State, he said.
The district industries and agriculture departments have conducted a thorough study on which units are in demand in the market. It is learnt there is a wide scope for setting up units in agricultural sector, Ajay Kumar said.
District Collector VP Gautham, along with the special officer, visited the villages and educated the beneficiaries on the selection of units. The grounding of units in Chintakani mandal may commence in a week after the amount is credited into the beneficiaries’ accounts, the Minister explained.
A similar exercise is going on five constituencies, including Madhira in Khammam and five constituencies in Kothagudem district. Identification of beneficiaries is being done based on the list given by the local MLAs, he noted.
In Khammam constituency, it was decided to implement the scheme at Irlapudi village of Raghunathapalem mandal on saturation basis by selecting 100 beneficiaries. By this, entire Dalit community in the village will be empowered, Ajay Kumar averred.
