58-year-old distressed farmer ends life in Adilabad
A 58-year-old farmer from Arli (B) village in Adilabad Rural mandal allegedly died by suicide after suffering heavy crop losses and debt. A video of him pleading with officials to procure his produce earlier has gone viral.

Adilabad: A 58-year old farmer died allegedly by suicide by consuming a pesticide as he was depressed by losses in farming at Arli (B) village in Adilabad Rural mandal on Friday.
Family members and police said that Thudum Ganapathi attempted suicide as he was disheartened due huge losses in farming on Thursday night. He was immediately shifted to RIMS-Adilabad where he died while undergoing treatment on Friday evening.
Ganapathi raised soy, cotton and jowar crops in his five acres of land and 10 acres of farm leased from another farmer by availing loans around Rs Seven lakh. He recorded huge losses in cultivating the two crops due to unfavorable weather conditions. His cotton produce was rejected by officials for having higher moisture content at an agriculture market yard in Adilabad town.
Meanwhile, a video clip of Ganpathi pleading to officials to procure his soy produce at the market yard in the past, went viral on social media platforms. Ganapathi was seen indicating his intention to end his life. Users of WhatsApp and Facebook urged the government to take steps to extend support to distressed farmers in the district.
