Mancherial: A 6K run was held to encourage physical fitness among police officials and staffers of the Police Department, at Gandhari Vanam on the outskirts of Mancherial town on Sunday. The event was organised by Bellampalli Assistant Commissioner of Police Adla Mahesh and Mancherial Deputy Commissioner of Police D Uday Kumar Reddy was the chief guest at the event.

Uday Kumar was all praise for Mahesh for hosting the novel programme. He opined that physical and mental fitness was the need of the hour especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. He advised the participants to continue jogging and running and set an example before others.

Over 200 policemen out of the total 235 belonging to different ranks and working in various police stations under Bellampalli police sub-division gathered at the park and enthusiastically took part in the event conducted between 6 am and 8 am. While some of them successfully completed 6 kilometer run, a major portion of them ran for 5 kilometers. About 20 participants were female officials.

“The objective of the programme is not only to make the policemen physically fit, but to ensure discipline and help serve the department for long. Over a period of time, Bellampalli should become the fittest sub-division in Telangana. Those who excel in this event will be encouraged to participate in State and national level marathons,” Mahesh told ‘Telangana Today.’

The Assistant Commissioner of Police further said that similar sprinting events would be organised in different parts of the sub-division on the first Sunday of every month. “It is a continuous process. Policemen participate in fitness regimen in their respective police stations every day. Every policeman should be able to run 10 kilometers,” he disclosed.

Mahesh, who is a fitness freak, said that policemen would create awareness among the public over various issues. It is the first-of-its-kind programme in Telangana aimed at raising understanding of policemen over physical fitness and health, he reasoned. He appreciated the police officials who took part in the event and thanked morning joggers at the park for extending cooperation in organising the programme.
