Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is helping the women especially the ones from economically weaker sections by making them self-reliant.
As a part of the exercise, the civic body is facilitating the Self Help Group (SHG) women get financial support through banks for a lesser rate of interest. This year, 98.15 crore loan was sanctioned to 1,735 SHGs. There are 46,255 SHGs with over 4.67 lakh women in the GHMC limits.
“Since2014-15 financial year, Rs 2,269.37 crore of loans were facilitated through bank linkage to SHG women. Irrespective of the economic background, women get their due share of respect in the society is the State government’s vision. Following this, GHMC, is facilitating the loans to ensure the women get an investment to start a business,” said GHMC in a press release.
Besides facilitating SHG women, through VIKASAM (Vikalangula Kaarya Sankalpam), the civic body is also assisting the specially abled women. The civic body in a press release said that Rs 13.23 crore was provided to 887 groups comprising specially abled.“This year,under various self-employment schemes, we have set a target to assist 957 persons with Rs 5.48 crore,” the GHMC said.
