He was on the lookout for something exclusive. A scent that permeated through the air and settled in his heart. With this thought, Shishir Mehta set out on a journey, navigating through the scent capitals of the world, to reach out to the hidden niche perfumeries. This is when his love affair with rare perfumes strengthened its roots. A thought began to germinate within his mind and what started off as a pursuit of leisure, slowly evolved into a concrete vision.
“I developed an interest in perfumes as my daughter was living in New York and then London. I would buy a lot of perfumes… For her and me. When I saw that there were no good quality perfumes in India, I got an idea to start something new and different,” reminisces Shishir.
After successfully heading a national metallurgical testing laboratory for 35 years, he is now fully devoted to showcasing his love for these exclusive yet elegant fragrances to those who truly have discerning taste.
Bringing the artistry of sophisticated perfumery and showcasing the finest collection of perfumes from around the world, Scentido, India’s first niche perfume retail boutique has made its presence felt in the city of Mumbai and Delhi, as well as online with their e-commerce portal, www.scentido.com.
And it’s now arrived in Hyderabad. Some of the most prestigious brands brought down by Mehta include Roja Parfums, Escentric Molecules, Atkinson’s 1799, Fragrance du Bois, The Spirit of Dubai, Ormonde Jayne, Jovoy, Andy Tauer and more. With a collector’s passion and a businessman’s drive, the brand is a labour of love, bringing the ultimate experiential haven for the finest luxury fragrances and niche perfumes.
Talking about the launch in the city of pearls, Shishir says, “The launch in Hyderabad was very good — we followed social distancing and all the safety precautions. For instance, we were only serving drinks outside so there’s fresh air and it doesn’t get crowded.”
Lots of people visited the outlet in Banjara Hills and were spotted checking out the perfumes. “We are already in Mumbai and Delhi… We knew Hyderabad has very good potential. It has grown vertically over the years and people are interested in buying luxury perfumes. There is no one like us in the market,” Shishir told Hyderabad Today.
In the future, he plans to introduce Scentido in Chennai and Cochin. “The fragrance market is growing despite of Covid-19. Since people are not travelling, they are looking for places to buy luxury perfumes locally,” says Shishir.
