Hyderabad: For most filmmakers getting a platform to showcase their films is a challenge they face day in and day out. And in a movie-obsessed country like ours wherein 2,500 movies are made every year and only 100-150 films are showcased to consumers, getting the right platform is a task in itself. With an idea to bridge this gap, ABC Talkies came into existence and now it has over 20 Telugu-language films being listed on the platform which includes both short and feature films.

“What we noticed in most Telugu films is that there is a cinematic finesse with which they shot and quality of cinematography or editing is quite good. Its value for money for consumers who watch it and secondly, we feel the Telugu films that are listed on our platform can cater to urban and rural society as well so that’s a major differentiator from other language content. We have a variety of genres of Telugu films on our platform — thriller, drama, horror, musical and socio dramas and of different duration,” said Siddharth Sinha, founder and chief content officer, ABC Talkies, which is headquartered in Gurugram.

The filmtech platform not just provides a platform for filmmakers to showcase their films but also helps in monetising the content being showcased. In addition, it also helps OTTs to come and explore various kinds of independent films and in turn help these films get to a wider audience.

“Hence we become the B2C and B2B solution for independent filmmakers and OTT platforms. Filmmakers have to just login and register themselves and upload any of their films and choose a ticket price that they wish to earn per click. We charge a 10 per cent convenience fee per click to the consumer,” he said.

“The filmmaker has a dedicated dashboard on our platform where they can see their monthly sales report and views and comments as well. In case any OTT platform wishes to buy a film from our platform then we negotiate on behalf of the filmmaker and we take a 10 per cent fee of the final price offered to the filmmaker from the buyer and rest gets to the filmmaker,” said Sinha.

The platform is focused on regional content as it wants to cater to the Indian community living abroad who would like to see content from their regional language.
