Khammam: A special Aadhaar enrolment camp was held at the Khammam-based Annam Seva Foundation, a home for the homeless, orphans and individuals suffering from mental illness who had left their homes.

The initiative was undertaken to facilitate identity verification, access to welfare services and, for some, reunification with their families. District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary P Devi Manasa recently visited the foundation to assess the challenges faced by the residents.

It was found that many residents lacked identity documents, thereby hindering their access to welfare services and other benefits. Following directions from Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) Member Secretary Panchakshari and DLSA Honorary President Dr GV Mahesh Nath, the DLSA coordinated with the district administration and relevant officials to organise a special Aadhaar enrolment camp at the shelter.

During the event, the Aadhaar enrolment process was carried out by recording the residents’ biometric details. For those who had previously obtained Aadhaar cards, steps would be taken to retrieve their details, which would help verify their identities and locate their family members.

Officials stated that measures for reunification could be initiated for those whose family details were successfully traced. For those whose details remained unavailable, new Aadhaar cards would be issued.

Devi Manasa said that once the Aadhaar enrolment process was completed, steps would be taken to ensure that the inmates received the benefits of legal services and welfare schemes implemented by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

Annam Srinivas Rao, who runs the home, stated that for many inmates who had lived for years without identity documents or knowledge of their families’ whereabouts, the Aadhaar enrolment camp had emerged as a new ray of hope. He has reunited many individuals with their families in the past.
