Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A newborn abandoned in a cotton field on the outskirts of Seethanagar hamlet under Vallagonda village was rescued on Saturday.

District Child Protection Officer Boorla Mahesh said local residents spotted the infant in the field and alerted authorities. A team comprising police, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) officials and health department personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the baby to a hospital in Kagaznagar.

Officials suspect the infant may have been abandoned due to social stigma. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Authorities said officials from the health and ICDS departments have been directed to ensure proper care and protection of the newborn.
