Hyderabad: The ABVP Osmania University (OU) unit on Thursday demanded the university administration to reduce fees for the Telangana State Eligibility Test (TG SET).

In a statement, ABVP OU unit president Druhan and secretary Shivashankar said the fee for the National Eligibility Test, which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) across the country, is Rs 1,000 for general category, Rs 600 for OBCs, an Rs 320 for SC/ST candidates.

However, the OU, which holds TG SET, charges Rs 2,000 for general, Rs 1,500 for OBC, and Rs 1,000 for SC/ST candidates. This high fee has become a heavy burden on students from economically weaker sections, they said.

The ABVP, which submitted a representation to TG SET convenor Prof Srinivas, demanded the varsity to reconsider and reduce the fee structure to make the exam more accessible to all sections of students.

Additionally, the students’ organisation highlighted confusion among students due to the overlap of NET and SET dates. It wanted rescheduling of the SET dates, considering the NET schedule to avoid any clash.

According to students, SET convenor Prof Srinivas responded positively and assured students that their concerns would be taken into consideration.
