Hyderabad: After a seven-year hiatus, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) led alliance has triumphed in the University of Hyderabad (UoH) Students Union elections 2025, winning all the posts.
Representing the ABVP-Sevalal Vidyarthi Dal (SLVD) alliance, Shiva Palepu won the president position by defeating Ananya Dash of BSF-DSU-SFI-TSF panel by a margin of 170 votes. A total of 1,541 votes were polled in favour of Palepu, while Ananya received 1,371 votes in the election results announced by the University administration here on Saturday late at night.
With 1,773 votes, Debendra of the ABVP-SLVD alliance was elected as the vice president. He defeated BSF-DSU-SFI-TSF alliance candidate Diwakar, who secured 1,170 votes.
In the race for the general secretary, a key position, Shruti Priya from the ABVP alliance won with 1,667 votes, while her opponent, Mohammed Shadil of ASA-AISA-Fraternity-MSF alliance, polled 980 votes.
Similarly, Saurabh Shukla, Venus and Jwala from the ABVP-led panel were elected as the joint secretary, cultural secretary and sports secretary, respectively. The ABVP also secured a majority by winning the councillor and board member positions at the School level.
Moments after the results declaration by the university’s election commission, students affiliated to the ABVP and SLVD organised celebrations on the campus.
“The victory signifies the students’ commitment to nationalism and a united effort to challenge divisive politics. Despite a heavy leftist presence, ABVP’s success in social science departments underscores the students’ determination to break free from ideological influence. The outcome is a clear signal that students are rejecting the Congress-affiliated NSUI, which received fewer votes than NOTA,” the ABVP said in a statement.
Earlier, the ABVP-led alliance swept the UoH students’ union elections, bagging all the posts, with Aarti Nagpal, who received 1,663 votes, winning the president post in 2018. This was after a gap of eight years, when the ABVP held the power in 2009-10.
