Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) here on Tuesday as ABVP activists staged a massive protest demanding that the government immediately release pending tuition fee reimbursement and scholarship dues to students. They also demanded that the government ensure that no tuition fee is charged from students at the time of admission.
A large number of student activists tried to barge into the TGCHE, and some climbed onto the gate. However, police swung into action and stopped the activists from entering the Council. During the protest, the activists alleged that the police lathi-charged them.
Condemning the police action against the activists, ABVP State Secretary Macharla Rambabu alleged that the Congress government was conspiring to scrap the fee reimbursement and scholarship scheme.
He blamed the State government for allowing the fee reimbursement issue to reach the High Court and accused it of creating confusion among students by frequently issuing new orders and obstructing the admission process.
The ABVP threatened to continue its protests until the government releases scholarship and fee reimbursement arrears amounting to Rs 11,000 crore.
