Adilabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials carried out surprise inspections in the offices of Sub-Registrars across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Friday, checking registration records, service details and the functioning of CCTV cameras.
Officials reportedly seized unaccounted cash during the checks in some Registrar offices. The exercise followed widespread allegations that staff of the Registrations and Stamps department were accepting bribes for registering illegal layouts.
While the ACB did not disclose the findings, sources said the drive was intended to verify suspected irregularities by registrars. Officials found that CCTV cameras had been intentionally switched off in certain Sub-Registrar offices, and noted instances of assets being registered after bribes were channelled through specific document writers.
A detailed report on the inspections, along with observations gathered during the visits, is likely to be submitted to senior authorities. The sudden checks triggered considerable concern across the district.
