Hyderabad: The Special Court for ACB cases at Nampally on Wednesday returned a memo filed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seeking permission to seize the passport of BRS working president KT Rama Rao and those of other accused in the Formula-E race case. The court directed the ACB to explain why the passports needed to be seized and file a proper petition under the relevant provisions of law.
Rama Rao is the prime accused in the case, along with senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar and other officials. The defence counsel argued that he and the other accused had been appearing before the court at every hearing and cooperating with the investigation. The court accepted the submission while returning the ACB memo.
The development came amid reports concerning the proposed seizure of Rama Rao’s passport. His counsel Jakkula Laxman urged media organisations to exercise restraint and report court proceedings strictly on the basis of judicial orders.
He alleged that some media organisations were deliberately publishing incorrect information and distorting court directions in a manner that could damage the reputation of individuals. He warned of legal action against media organisations publishing false and misleading reports.
