Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Tuesday conducted simultaneous searches at properties linked to Roads and Buildings (R&B) Engineer-in-Chief J Mohan Naik and reportedly uncovered illegal assets with a market value of nearly Rs 200 crore.
The raids began early in the morning and continued till late in the evening.
According to sources, ACB teams carried out searches at around 11 locations, including Mohan Naik’s residence in Madhapur, following information regarding alleged disproportionate assets.
As per available information, Mohan Naik has faced allegations in the past of collecting commissions from contractors involved in road and infrastructure projects. He is also accused of favouring select contractors in the award of works, allegedly in violation of tender norms, and amassing substantial assets through corrupt practices.
It is alleged that the officer wielded considerable influence over project approvals and contract execution across the State.
It is learnt that the latest searches were aimed at verifying assets, financial transactions and property holdings linked to him and his associates. Both movable and immovable assets, including cash of Rs 60 lakh, 2.5 kg of gold ornaments, and land- and property-related documents, were gathered and assessed.
Given the reported scale of the properties under scrutiny, the verification process is expected to take some time.
Meanwhile, the ACB is yet to issue an official statement on the value of assets detected during the searches.
