Hyderabad: Taiwanese multinational hardware and electronics corporation Acer is looking to expand its manufacturing, product line, and retail footprint in India. The company is also keen to increase its exports from India, by adding local jobs and innovation at its facility.

Acer’s current product range includes laptops, Chromebooks, desktops, tablets, displays, monitors, projectors, gaming devices and accessories, audio devices, and air purifiers.

The company has a centralised and global facility for research and design, based out of Taiwan.

The manufacturing base is distributed worldwide, including Australia, Europe, India, Indonesia, and North America. In India, the company’s plant at Puducherry is equipped to support the production of 3,500 units per shift, which can be expanded as demand increases.

Sudhir Goel, chief business officer, Acer India, told Telangana Today, “With our capabilities and manufacturing, we export to markets in South-East Asian countries as well as serve the Indian market. We are one of the few global hardware technology companies to set up a manufacturing and assembly base in India for a wide range of desktops, servers, reconfiguration of notebooks, and other products. Our factory has been producing personal computers for over two decades.”

“With production linked incentive (PLI) and other government push, we hope to scale our manufacturing and exports as well as source more locally helping to add jobs and local innovations,” Goel said.

Building portfolio

Laptops, desktops, and monitors account for a major portion of the company’s revenues. The company is also facilitating the adoption of the internet of things (IoT), virtual reality, and artificial intelligence (AI) among the Indian industry, government, and individual customers.

The company has a complete range of hardware solutions for IoT and AI. It has a full line-up of premium gaming devices, including laptops, desktops, monitors, gaming accessories, gadgets, and gear to foster immersive experiences, creativity, and collaboration.

“We are keen on the most advanced PC and lifestyle products ranging from laptops to air-purifiers to wireless earbuds. Acer is committed to bringing in products that help in healthier and connected lifestyles,” Goel informed.

Retail expansion

Acer is expanding both its retail presence and product lines with the introduction of lifestyle technology products with an investment of around $3 million (over Rs 22 crore) in retail and related activities.

Goel added, “The company has 100 stores pan-India, out of which it has two stores in Telangana at present. There are plans to add four more stores in the State (in Hyderabad, Karimnagar and Warangal), as part of the company’s plan to set up 100 new stores pan-India to take the total to 200 by the end of the year.”
