Hyderabad: Amid reports of coal shortage in the country, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has asked the area general managers (GMs) to work collectively to achieve the production targets in the current financial year.

At a review meeting conducted with GMs through video conference, SCCL directors S Chandrashekar, N Balaram and D Satyanarayana said since the next 120 days were crucial, the staff should go ahead with a perfect plan to achieve the balance 270 lakh tonnes of production.

Everyday 2.15 lakh tonnes of coal production and transport must be achieved and 14.4 lakh cubic meters of over burden must be removed. The coal transport must happen in 39 racks every day, they said.

They set a target of two lakh tonnes of over burden (OB) removal every day through company shovels. Already all OB contracts, machines and permissions have been given to surface mines and hence set targets must be achieved in coal production.

The maintenance of machines must be carried out from time to time ensuring that there is no hindrance to production, they advised.

The directors said focus should be on achieving set targets, taking all precautions. The SCCL would be conducting meetings regularly to focus more on the safety measures to be taken in mines and also receive suggestions.

General Manager (Marketing) K Suryanarayana said since the coal prices were coming down in the international market, special emphasis should be laid on quality to sustain in the market. Steps must be taken to ensure that new companies which got contracts should take up over burden removal immediately.

Officials informed that in the first eight months of the financial year 2021-22, the SCCL achieved good growth. Compared to last financial year in the same period for production, transport and OB removal, 60 per cent growth in coal transport, 52 per cent in coal production and 26 per cent growth in OB removal have been recorded.

In the last financial year, only 26.935 million tonnes of coal production was achieved by end of November and in this financial year, as many as 40.86 million tonnes of coal production was achieved registering 52 per cent growth.
