Hyderabad: The Advanced Centre of Research in High Energy Materials (ACRHEM), a DRDO’s Centre of Excellence in the University of Hyderabad (UoH), has recently been granted a patent for green method in energetic plasticizers.
The invention was titled ‘Green Method for the Synthesis of Bis(Fluoroalkyl)Carbonate’ and ACRHEM, project scientist, Dr. Balaka Barkakaty and her two project assistants, Saheli Dey and Nitesh Singh were the inventors of the patent, the UoH said in a press release on Friday.
The patent was granted for discovery of a new generalised method that outlines an easy, green, no-solvent and cost-effective method for producing various types of bis(fluoroalkyl)carbonates in high purity and high yields, it said.
The conventional methods for synthesizing bis(fluoroalkyl) carbonates utilises environmentally hazardous chemicals such as phosgene or triphosgene and other alternative methods that were not practically viable for industrial applications, it said.
