Mancherial: Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) D Uday Kumar Reddy warned that stringent action would be taken against traders of spurious seeds. He stated that the Preventive Detention (PD) Act would be invoked against the traders.
He convened a review meeting with police officials over measures taken for clamping down the menace and then addressed pressmen in Bellampalli on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said the police would book the traders of fake cotton seeds under the PD Act and house them in jail. He asked officials to keep a tab on transport agencies, fertilizer and seed outlets. He told them to prepare a list of habitual offenders. He advised them to prepare a list of traders of banned gutka and tobacco products.
The DCP further suggested that the officials step up vigil on warehouses and have an understanding of sources of supply of seeds. He directed them to lay special focus on controlling the menace and to crack the whip against the traders of spurious seeds. He cautioned that disciplinary action would be initiated against police officials when State-level task forces seize seeds under the jurisdiction of their police station.
The head of the district police force said that stern action would be taken against those who commit illegal activities and trade the spurious seeds. He stated that none would be spared if they were found to be involved in the offence. Bellampalli ACP Rahman, Inspectors Jagadish, Pramod Rao, Babu Rao, Raju and several sub-inspectors belonging to Bellampalli police sub-division attended the meeting.
