Acting will always be Ali Merchant’s first and last love
The actor gets talking to us about his TV career, his latest chat show and his love for the city
Hyderabad: Ali Merchant may have already appeared in over 35 serials until now, but he is still raging to go. A common name in any household in India with a television, the actor-cum-DJ wants to make an interesting comeback into showbiz. After getting a decent break in the pandemic, Ali was in Hyderabad recently to perform at Prism Club and Kitchen along with artiste Pratik Bachan, better known as B Praak.
Talking about his latest OTT project, Ali shares excitedly, “I am hosting a new chat show called ‘Inspiring Icons’ for this OTT platform called Midigiworld. The first guest on the show was actor R Madhavan and our talks went on for almost three-and-a-half hours. Maddy was surprised that I knew so much about him! That’s the kind of research I’ve been putting in for the show. It is all about bringing rags-to-riches stories to the audience. So, I’m pretty confident that the audience will enjoy the show.”
Ali has taken a break from television for almost 7 years and has been concentrating on music. He feels one must focus on one thing at a time. “When I was into TV, I worked with almost all major channels and a variety of actors. After a point, I realised that TV wasn’t the right thing for me because everything was getting digitalised. That’s when I ventured into music production, but acting will always remain my first and last love. In my music career, I’ve worked on shows with well-known artistes such as Diljit Dosanjh, Guru Randhawa and DJ Snake, among others,” shares Ali.
When his break from acting happened, Ali took the opportunity to travel to almost 8 countries. Even his music career took him to different places in India and he learnt about many cultures. “I’ve been coming to Hyderabad every 45 days — I love the city and I am trying to pick Telugu words as well. I’m researching the Telugu industry, and would love to work in an exciting project. My favourite Telugu actor is Allu Arjun and I would be lucky to have him on my chat show,” shares Ali.
