Actor Shanawas, son of legendary Prem Nazir, dies at 71

Malayalam actor Shanawas, son of screen legend Prem Nazir, passed away at 71 after prolonged illness. Known for films like Mazhanilavu and Jana Gana Mana, he acted in over 50 movies.

Thiruvananthapuram: Noted Malayalam film and TV actor Shanawas passed away at a private hospital here late Monday night following prolonged health issues, family sources said. He was 71.

Son of the evergreen actor Prem Nazir, Shanawas had been suffering from serious ailments for some time and was shifted to the hospital after his condition worsened, they said.


He began his acting career with Premageethangal, directed by Balachandra Menon, and went on to act in over 50 Malayalam films. He also appeared in several television serials.

Mazhanilavu, Neelagiri, Manithali, Gaanam, Aazhi, and Human were among his notable films.

After a break from the screen, Shanawas made a comeback through the Mohanlal-starrer China Town. He was last seen in Prithviraj’s 2022 blockbuster Jana Gana Mana.

People from various walks of life, including General Education Minister V Sivankutty, condoled his death.
