Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police has once again written to Twitter India, asking to share details of Twitter accounts of persons who had posted threats and derogatory comments against actress Meera Chopra last year.

The actress had in June last year made an online complaint to the Hyderabad police after some persons, claiming to be fans of another prominent actor, sent her abusive and derogatory messages on Twitter. The miscreants, who used fake identities issued death and rape threats to the actress.

Following her complaint, the Cybercrime police registered a case under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, Section 506 and Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code.

“After a case was registered, we sent a letter to Twitter India asking them to share the IP address and other technical details of the Twitter handle/ accounts for identifying and nabbing the culprits. As Twitter India appointed a grievance office in accordance with new IT rules, we have again sent a fresh letter seeking the information,” a senior official said.
