Adilabad: Twelve persons including a Sarpanch, who were allegedly involved in the conflict at Gundala village in Echoda, were arrested on Friday. Two elderly were brutally murdered and seven including four women sustained injuries in the clashes at this habitation on Wednesday. A knife, an axe and four sticks were recovered from them.
Briefing details of the arrests to pressmen in Echoda police station, in-charge Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chandra said that the accused were Abdul Rasheed, Sarpanch of Gundala, Shaik Aslam, Shaik Asgar, Shaik Shafat alias Sadad, Shaik Saddam, Shak Rabban, Shaik Zumma, Shaik Musa, Shaik Hasam, Shaik Ameed alias Ameer, Shaik Allahuddin and Shaik Zaleel, all residents of Gundala.
On being interrogated, Rashed confessed to assaulting the members of his opponent MPTC member Shaik Mobin using sticks, axes and knives following some previous grudge, with the help of his supporters. He admitted that they were absconding after the incident and hid the weapons. The accused were taken into custody by Echoda Inspector Ramesh Babu and his team.
The IPS officer stated that the situation was now totally under control in the village. He informed that 12 pickets were created for preventing untoward incidents. He stated that three teams headed by Utnoor ASP Harshavardhan Srivatsava were formed to nab the remaining accused. He added that steps would be taken for providing a permanent solution to internal conflicts within the community of the village.
