Adilabad: Farmers sent selfie photographs with withered cotton plants to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleging that the drought was caused by the Congress, not by nature at Mukhra (K) village on Friday.
Farmers of the village gathered at a cotton crop and took selfies carrying the withered plants. They then forwarded their selfies to Rahul Gandhi. They opined that the drought, which was originally caused by the Congress, damaged crops and resulted in losses to farmers. The Congress duped the farmers by not lifting floodwater and leaving it for Andhra Pradesh, they charged.
The farmers demanded that the government extend a compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre of cotton and Rs 20,000 per acre of soy crop. They regretted that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy asking self-declarations from farmers was regrettable. They wanted the government to immediately offer relief measures to drought-affected mandals.
