Adilabad: Farmers urged the State government to take steps to buy both soy and maize grains and avoid inconvenience to them. They observed a day-long bandh of commercial establishments and educational institutions demanding the government to procure both soy and maize produce, in Bazarhathnoor mandal centre on Wednesday.

The agitating farmers wanted the government to immediately purchase the grains and prevent inconvenience to them. They asked how they could sell the grains if the procurement centres, arranged by the marketing department, were closed. They regretted that they would be forced to depend on private traders and incur huge losses in cultivating the crops.

Considering a bandh call given by a joint action committee, commercial establishments, schools and colleges remained closed. Police personnel were deployed to prevent untoward incidents. The bandh went off peacefully till afternoon, police said.
