Adilabad: Five inter-state thieves held for cigarette theft worth Rs 5.35 lakh

Five inter-state thieves were arrested in Adilabad for stealing cigarette boxes worth Rs 5.35 lakh from a shop at Ambedkar Chowk. Police seized cigarette packets, Rs 60,000 cash, a car and mobile phones from the gang.

Adilabad: Five inter-state thieves were arrested on charges of stealing cigarette boxes worth Rs 5.35 lakh from an outlet in the town. Police recovered several cigarette packets, Rs 60,000 in cash, a car, three mobile phones and a spade from the five.

SP Akhil Mahajan said here on Saturday, said that Kumawath Bundaram, Ghanshyam, Manikchand, Laxman, all from Jaitharam in Pali district of Rajasthan and Tejpal Singh, a resident of Patancheru in Hyderabad were apprehended for their role in burglarising the cigarettes by breaking open the shop at Ambedkar Chowk in the town recently.

During the course of interrogation, the five reportedly confessed to lifting the cigarette boxes in the town and to committing a similar crime in Maharashtra. They admitted to indulging in the offences by forming a gang as they were habituated to easy money. They were detained while attempting to sell the cigarettes and commit a similar crime in the town, following a tip-off.
