Adilabad: Former Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy lashed out at the Congress for neglecting farmers by offering lower Rythu Bharosa crop investment support than promised. He along with Boath MLA Anil Jadhav and members of the panel, formed by BRS to study key causes behind the farm crisis, addressed media persons here on Saturday. The panel concluded its tour to the district on Friday.

Reddy asserted that the Congress government was not giving due importance to the agriculture sector. He opined that it was unfair to delay extending crop investment support to 500 farmers citing a handful of ineligible farmers. He maintained that the government was not moving in the right direction and path. He said that people learnt a lesson for electing the Congress.

The former Minister further said that the activists and leaders of the BJP were working as a sub brigade to the Congress party. He demanded that the Congress create better irrigation facilities and to fulfill its poll promise of providing enhanced crop investment support to the farmers. He wanted it to extend the support to tenant farmers as well.

He found fault with the government for failing to implement crop loan waiver in a full-fledged manner. He said that the cotton farmers were reeling under severe crisis as they did not get support price from the government. He stated that they faced problems in selling cotton produce owing to delay in creation of procurement centres by the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI).

faulted the Congress for ignoring problems of farmers. He observed that governments come and go, but farmers should be protected. He flayed the government for failing to irrigate agriculture fields under various irrigation projects. He recalled that the then BRS government built the inter-State Chanaka-Korata irrigation project by spending Rs 1,000 crore.

Members of the panel included Rasamayi Balakishan, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Satyavathi Rathod, Jogu Ramanna, MC Kotireddy, Yadav Reddy, Bajireddy Govardhan Reddy and Anjaiah Yadav.
