Adilabad: Rich tributes were paid to freedom fighter and Professor Konda Laxman Bapuji on his birth 106th anniversary celebrated across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Monday. Laxman hails from Wankidi mandal centre of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
Collector Sikta Patnaik garlanded the statue of Laxman in Adilabad and termed him as a matchless person. She said that Laxman had participated in the Telangana armed struggle and second phase of the movement seeking a separate State. She recalled that he had served as legislator of Asifabad and Bhongir and Deputy Chief Minister.
Additional Collector Nataraj, District Backward Classes Welfare Officer Rajalingam, former Zilla Parishad chairperson Suhashini, Adilabad district Padmashali Association president Ashamma, members Srinivas, Praveen, Chikkala Dattu, Ramesh, Parthasarathi and others were present. Cultural programmes were conducted to mark the occasion.
Mancherial Collector Bharati Hollikeri stated that Laxman had played a vital role in the Indian independence struggle and Telangana movement. She stated he had sacrificed the post of deputy Chief Minister for the cause of separate statehood. She requested everyone to strive hard to realize the ideals of the fighter. Collectors of Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Musharraf Ali Faruqui and Rahul Raj also paid tributes. They were joined by district authorities.
Meanwhile, student organizations, employees of government departments, voluntary organisations and members of the Padmashali community paid homage to Laxman in several parts of Adilabad, Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. They recalled his contributions to the Indian Independence movement and Telangana struggle. They hailed him for his unparalleled contributions to the two causes.
