Adilabad: An organiser belonging to a Customer Service Centre (CSC) of Telangana Grameena Bank (TGB) was alleged to have siphoned off Rs 1.28 crore using Kisan credit cards of three farmers at Chinnasalpalaguda village in Adilabad Rural mandal on Saturday. However, he returned Rs 34.50 lakh and submitted an undertaking to repay the remaining funds to authorities.
TGB Chief Manager Mahi Vivek said that the organizer, Jetala Ramesh was found to have illegally withdrawn funds to the tune of Rs 1,28,78,000 during reconciliation of data, violating norms of the bank for three months. He stated that the organizer and three farmers gave a written undertaking to repay the sum at the earliest. Else, a complaint would be lodged with police if the four do not help in recovering the funds, he added.
The bank authorities in Hyderabad head office noticed the withdrawal on Friday. They alerted their colleagues in Adilabad to initiate the fund recovery process. Accordingly, they visited the CSC and recovered Rs 33.50 lakh from Ramesh and Rs 1.08 lakh from three farmers namely Kodapa Bheemrao, Kodapa Gangadevi and Madavi Rambai of Chinnasalpalaguda village.
Ramesh handed over Rs 16 lakh to the three farmers on different occasions. He reportedly kept the remaining money with him. Officials of the bank found Rs 11 lakh in the account of his wife. They are confident that they would be able to recover the money from the organizer and the farmers soon. It is learnt that the funds were credited to the accounts of the three farmers due to some bugs in the software of the bank. The source of the funds was yet to be ascertained.
