Adilabad: Prime accused in Keshavapatnam forest attack arrested

Adilabad: The prime accused in the assault on forest officials and police personnel at Keshavapatnam village in Echoda mandal was arrested on Friday.

Police said Shaik Altaf of Keshavapatnam, who had been absconding after the incident, was apprehended and produced before a court. Altaf was already facing charges in seven other cases, including extortion and criminal intimidation.


So far, 29 people have been arrested for allegedly pelting stones and attacking police and forest staff during a plantation drive held by the Forest Department on July 19.

The incident turned violent when locals, including women, allegedly attacked the forest staff, escorted by police. Some of the attackers were armed with sticks, sickles, and swords. Eleven officials, including a Sub-Inspector, sustained injuries in the attack.
