Adilabad: Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan advised the public to remain vigilant against cyber crimes, with the district registering 18 cyber fraud cases over the last week.
Akhil, in a statement, said that cyber fraudsters across the country were using various methods to deceive gullible people. He advised the public to remain cautious of the fraudsters. He stated that personnel under the name of Khakhi Kids would be visiting schools and colleges to create awareness among people.
The superintendent further said that there was a higher risk of cyber crimes being committed through social media platforms in present-day society. He urged the public to be careful. He stated that cyber criminals were siphoning off money from bank accounts by sending APK files and unknown links through WhatsApp and Telegram.
He cautioned that unemployed youth were being targeted by criminals under the guise of work-from-home and employment opportunities. He stated that the criminals would ask for money and then dupe jobseekers. He said that every business advertisement on social media platforms should be treated with caution. He requested people to report cyber crimes on the toll-free number 1930.
As per the statement, cyber fraudsters recently duped a woman of Rs 20,000 under the guise of a work-from-home offer. The fraudsters siphoned off Rs 40,000 after stealing sensitive information from a person’s WhatsApp account. A youngster from Utnoor lost Rs 1.40 lakh in a honey trap laid by fraudsters. A man from Bheempur was duped of Rs 1 lakh after installing an APK file.
