Adilabad teacher praised by Prime Minister Modi for protecting tribal languages

Hailing from Wagapur in Mavala mandal, Kailas is the first teacher to explore Kolami and Gondi facing extinction. His efforts are playing a vital role in protecting the indigenous languages and carrying forward them for future generations

Adilabad: Thodasam Kailas, a government school teacher from the district has drawn the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for singing songs in Kolami, Gondi, Hindi and English languages using artificial intelligence. He was praised by Modi for his pivotal role in protecting the two tribal languages during the Mann Ki Baat programme aired on All India Radio on Sunday.

“Winning laurels from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi is nothing short of receiving a national award. I never imagined that my efforts would be recognised one day. I am thrilled to be specially mentioned by Modi,” Kailas told ‘Telangana Today’ while sharing his emotions for drawing the attention of the Prime Minister on the popular radio show.

The school assistant (social science) at a government school in Gourapur village of Indervelli mandal recalled that he made an attempt to sing songs and read news with the help of an anchor created through AI in 2024. He said he relied upon the AI considering its advantages when compared to humans. He stated that he uploaded the songs on his YouTube channel which garnered an overwhelming response from internet users.

The 50-year-old shared that he had written the Mahabharat in Gondi language in July. He penned Kandiram Vesudi, a compilation of short stories for kids in Gondi. He is currently researching Gondi literature and was planning to produce some more works in this language in future. He attributed his success to his teacher job which helped him in honing his communication skills.

Hailing from Wagapur in Mavala mandal, Kailas is the first teacher to explore Kolami and Gondi facing extinction. His efforts are playing a vital role in protecting the indigenous languages and carrying forward them for future generations. He recounted that watching films and songs on Doordarshan left a profound impact on him during childhood. He had begun his career as a teacher with the education department in 2001.

District Educational Officer Pranitha and others congratulated Kailas on being acknowledged by the Prime Minister.
