Adilabad: Tribals and the kin of a tribal woman, who died while undergoing treatment, staged a dharna demanding action against doctors of Rajiv Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)-Adilabad, with the body here on Thursday.F

Family members and relatives of Mesram Gangubai (23) staged a sit-in in front of the medical institution alleging that the negligence of doctors claimed the life of the woman. They lamented that the botched caesarean section performed by the doctors resulted in the death of Gangubai. They wanted officials concerned to take stringent action against the doctors.

The tribals called off their protest after Additional Collector Rizwan Shaik, RIMS Director Dr B Karunakar and District Medical and Health Officer Dr Narender Rathod assured of action against the doctors. A sum of Rs 50,000 was granted by ITDA-Utnoor to the kin as immediate relief. One of the kin would be provided a job at RIMS on a contract basis.

A native of remote Suryaguda village in Gudihathnoor mandal, the tribal woman was admitted to RIMS when she developed labour pains on December 21. She delivered a baby girl in her first gravida. She breathed her last while undergoing treatment in Gandhi Hospital on Wednesday.
