Adilabad: Women staged a rasta-roko with empty vessels at Hanumannagar Colony in Muthnoor village of Indervelli mandal on Sunday, protesting against the drinking water shortage in the area.
The protesters blocked the Utnoor-Adilabad road and raised slogans against local public representatives and officials, alleging that they had failed to address the water crisis. Traffic on the busy road remained disrupted for nearly two hours.
Muthnoor vice-sarpanch Rahul Bhonsle reached the spot after being informed about the protest and held discussions with the women. He subsequently persuaded them to speak to local MLA Vedma Bojju over the phone.
The protesters called off the road blockade after Bojju assured them that steps would be taken to resolve the drinking water problem at the earliest.
