Hyderabad: Three people died and 20 remain hospitalised after allegedly consuming adulterated toddy at four toddy compounds in Kukatpally.

The victims have been identified as K Seetharam (50), C Swaroopa (65), and C Bujjaiah (65). Police stated that these three, along with others, had been frequenting four toddy compounds in Hydernagar, Indiranagar, Bhagyanagar and HB Nagar within Kukatpally, where they consumed the toddy.

Following the incident, KPHB police have registered three cases, while Balanagar Prohibition and Excise station officials booked five. Seven individuals including Prabhakar Goud, Srinivas Goud, Nagesh Goud, B Srinivas, Ravi Teja, Sai Teja, and Ramesh Goud have been taken into custody.

Those who fell sick after consuming the alleged adulterated toddy were initially admitted to various hospitals on Tuesday. Almost all of them complained of acute gastroenteritis and were severely dehydrated.

Later, all 20 patients were shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). Of the 20 currently admitted at NIMS, three patients are in critical condition while the rest are stable.

Officials reported that the affected individuals had consumed toddy at four different toddy compounds on Tuesday. The exact cause of their illness is currently under verification, officials added, noting that samples have been collected and sent for analysis.

Meanwhile, Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha on Wednesday instructed health officials to ensure proper treatment for those undergoing treatment at NIMS.

Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and senior BJP leader Eatala Rajender on Wednesday visited NIMS to check on the health status of the persons undergoing treatment. They interacted with the NIMS doctors and later spoke to the family members of the patients.
