Hyderabad: The State government on a mission mode is restoring stepwells in and around the city. As part of the exercise, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has restored the stepwell in Lingojigudem, Choutuppal.
Garbage, silt and debris that accumulated over the years inside the water body were removed and the vegetation that covered the structure was also cleared, giving the stepwell a new lease of life.
Taking to Twitter, Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar on Wednesday tweeted: “Yet another #Stepwell restored bt @HMDA_Gov at Choutuppal, Lingojigudem Before & after pics – it’s such a good feeling everytime @KTRTRS” (sic).
He shared pictures of the stepwell as it was before the restoration works were taken up and also how the structure looks now on completion of the restoration.
The stepwells restored earlier by the State government include the Bansilalpet stepwell in Secunderabad, which was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Bhagwandas Bagh Baoli and the Shiva Bagh Baoli near Gudimalkapur.
