Hyderabad: The Telangana State Legislative Assembly witnessed an unusual scene on Saturday as the corridors reverberated with slogans of “Ganapati Bappa Moria, We Want Urea” as BRS members voiced concern over the ongoing urea shortage in the State. The sloganeering, spearheaded by BRS working president KT Rama Rao and senior leader T Harish Rao, followed the adjournment of the Assembly after a condolence motion for departed members.
The protest, which was a continuation of the protest that the party stages at Gun Park before heading to the Assembly, drew attention, with even ministers and members of the treasury benches inquiring about the commotion.
The BRS leaders used the platform to highlight the severe urea crisis affecting Telangana’s farmers during the critical Kharif season, accusing both the Congress-led state government and the BJP-led central government of failing to address the issue.
In a surprising twist, BJP MLA from Goshamahal, T Raja Singh, was seen among the BRS members during the protest. Known for his vocal stance on various issues, Raja Singh was spotted exchanging pleasantries with Rama Rao as well. The presence of a BJP member alongside BRS leaders turned out to be the talk of the lobbies of the House.
BRS leaders who interacted with the media persons outside the house attributed the urea crisis in the State to the failure of both the State and Central governments. The urea crisis has sparked a heated political row, with the Congress government alleging that the Centre has failed to supply Telangana’s allocated quota of 8.3 lakh metric tonnes for the Kharif season.
