Hyderabad: One-way traffic systems have increasingly become a preferred strategy for city traffic police to tackle growing traffic congestion.

The encouraging results of the one-way traffic arrangement around KBR Park have prompted police in both Hyderabad and Cyberabad to explore similar experiments on major traffic corridors.

The trend gained momentum after the one-way system was introduced around KBR Park on August 18, amid road restrictions and construction activity under the H-CITI project. Soon after its implementation, Hyderabad Traffic Police officials reported improvements in travel time, with motorists gradually adapting to the revised routes. Traffic personnel were deployed at key points, while efforts were made to update route changes on Google Maps.

Taking a cue from this experience, the Cyberabad Traffic Police, in coordination with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), are planning a one-way loop in the IT corridor between Biodiversity Junction and Knowledge City to ease peak-hour congestion.

The proposed loop will start at Biodiversity Junction and pass through IKEA Rotary, Raheja Mindspace’s C-Gate, Knowledge City and Dallas Center before taking a right turn at My Home Bhooja and reconnecting with Biodiversity Junction. The plan aims to address bottlenecks at four major junctions. Traffic simulations and stakeholder consultations will precede its phased implementation.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Traffic Police are exploring another one-way arrangement at Lakdi-ka-pul. City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar and Traffic Joint Commissioner D Joel Davis recently inspected the proposed routes on a motorcycle.

The plan involves revised traffic movements around Ravindra Bharathi, Iqbal Minar, HDFC Junction, Old Saifabad Police Station and Old Control Room Junction, with vehicles being diverted through designated routes to minimise conflicting movements.
