Agriculture dept employee attempts suicide after alleged harassment by superior in Mancherial

A staff member of the Agriculture Department in Mancherial allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide after reported harassment by District Agriculture Officer E. Surekha. The employee, Srinivas, was reprimanded for arriving late, which his family claims led to the drastic step.

Mancherial: An employee of the Agriculture department allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide following alleged harassment by District Agriculture Officer (DAO) E Surekha here on Tuesday. His condition is said to be critical.

Family members alleged that Srinivas, an attender in the department, attempted to end his life by consuming pesticide on the premises of the DAO’s office at around 11 am. Srinivas’s wife alleged that he was disheartened after Surekha reportedly reprimanded him for being late to the office. He was immediately shifted to the Government General Hospital.

She demanded that the District Collector take action against Surekha for targeting her husband and sought a probe into the incident.

When contacted, Surekha clarified that she had asked him why he had reported to the office 30 minutes late. She claimed that Srinivas had not been reporting to duty regularly even though the entire staff of the office was maintaining punctuality and that she had not harassed the attender.
