Karimnagar: Jajala Sandhya, an agriculture labourer from Jammikunta town in the district, would not have, even in the wildest of dreams, dreamt of owning some business, leave alone becoming the owner of a supermarket. But this is exactly what happened to Sandhya and her family who witnessed a life-changing experience on Monday when her supermarket was thrown open, thanks to the path-breaking Telangana Dalit Bandhu.
Hailing from a poor family, Sandhya used to work as an agriculture labourer while her husband Gangaiah works in a cotton mill. The couple has two sons. Sandhya was selected under the Dalit Bandhu scheme aimed at empowerment of the Dalit community. She was among the 15 beneficiaries who received proceeding orders from Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on August 16, when the scheme was launched in Huzurabad.
The family decided to open a supermarket and informed their decision to the officials. After completing all formalities, the district officials made the arrangements to open the supermarket.
After getting approval from the officials, Sandhya rented shop space in front of Degree College on Veenavanka Road. The first supermarket under the Dalit Bandhu scheme in the Huzurabad Assembly constituency was inaugurated by Jammikunta Municipal Chairman Thakkallapalli Rajeshwar Rao.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Sandhya thanked the Chief Minister for sanctioning Rs 10 lakh under the scheme. “I never thought I would be in a position to own a supermarket. Both my husband and I used to work hard to run the family and provide education to children. Dalit Bandhu has truly changed my family’s fortunes,” she said.
