Hyderabad: In what is dubbed as a record sale, liquor worth Rs.402.62 crore was sold across the State on Monday, in the run-up to the New Year’s eve.

According to excise officials, 3,82,265 cases of liquor and 3,96,114 cases of beer were sold on Monday. Hyderabad and surrounding districts of Ranga Reddy and Medchal recorded the highest liquor sale in the State, added officials.


An average of Rs 70 crore to Rs 100 crore of liquor is sold in the State daily, while liquor worth Rs. 402 crore was sold in a single day.

In December alone, the government had billed the shops a record Rs. 3523.16 crore as against the Rs 2,764 crore it did in the same month last year. The government is expecting the sale of liquor to touch over Rs. 400 crore on Tuesday (December 31) and over Rs. 700 crore in the next three days.

The government has set a target of Rs.45,000 crore for the current financial year.
