Ahead of Sankranthi, Khammam CP Dutt warns against organising cockfights
As soon as information about any cockfighting and betting incidents under Khammam police commissionerate, the teams should rush to the spot and take appropriate action, Dutt said
Khammam: Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt has warned that strict action would be taken if cockfights were found to be organised in the villages in the district.
He held a teleconference with the police officers here on Friday to review the measures to be taken to prevent cockfighting in view of the Sankranthi festival. Police teams should be formed at the division, mandal and village level to prevent cockfights, he said.
As soon as information about any cockfighting and betting incidents under Khammam police commissionerate, the teams should rush to the spot and take appropriate action, Dutt said.
Similarly, cases have to be registered against those who allow cockfighting and gambling in their farms, lands and guest houses. Betting and gambling camps should be raided and cases should be registered, he added.
Those who organised cockfights and those who were found to have tied swords to roosters in the last year should be identified and bound over. Awareness must be created among the people in the villages about the ban on organising cockfights, the CP noted.
Likewise, strict measures against those who were stocking or selling Chinese manja should be dealt with seriously. All station house officers should pay serious attention to the matter and take legal action against the sellers as the manja was harming human lives, birds and animals.
Cases have to be registered against shops selling banned Chinese manja made from non-biodegradable and synthetic products. The public should take precautions while flying kites and not to buy Chinese manja, Dutt added.
