AI tutors to complement lecturers in Telangana colleges
The Telangana Council of Higher Education plans to introduce AI tutors in colleges from 2026-27 academic year to support lecturers in newly introduced UG and PG programmes. The digital assistants will provide personalised guidance, explanations and doubt-clearing to improve student learning
Hyderabad: College students in Telangana will soon have AI tutors assisting them in learning subjects.
In a first of its kind, the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has unveiled its ambitious plans to introduce AI tutors in higher education institutions from the forthcoming academic year. An AI tutor is a digital teaching assistant, which helps students learn by providing personalised guidance, explanation, and feedback, similar to a teacher.
Speaking to ‘Telangana Today’, TGCHE Chairman Prof V Balakista Reddy said the AI tutors are aimed at complementing degree lecturers in emerging courses that are to be rolled out for the forthcoming year.
“Content is being developed and this learning material will be integrated with an AI platform, which will teach, guide and explain the lesson besides clearing doubts, if any, of students,” he said.
The AI tutor initiative will be rolled out for teaching new innovative UG and PG programmes such as BA Defence, Security and Political Science, BBA Aviation Management, MA Aviation Management, and MA Defence Security Studies.
Nearly 15 new UG and PG programmes are on the anvil in the State for the academic year 2026-27. “The new programmes will have technology, management, governance and law components, ensuring the graduates get expertise in multiple domains thereby increasing their employability quotient. Nearly 50 new airports are to be established across the country, and to cater to the growing needs of aviation sector, we are launching BBA Airport, Airline, and Airspace Management programme,” Dr Reddy said.
The TGCHE has already issued notification inviting applications from degree and PG colleges to offer new courses and has scheduled a meeting with vice chancellors of conventional universities to discuss the new programmes.
