Hyderabad: The AIG Hospitals will distribute one lakh copies of Covid-19 Protocol and Guidelines Book, a ready reckoner for physicians brought out by the hospital, to doctors across the country free of cost, AIG Hospitals chairman Dr D Nageshwar Reddy said on Monday.
Dr Nageshwar Reddy was speaking after Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu released the book at his residence here.
“THe AIG Covid-19 Protocol Book is an earnest attempt from our side to put forward the science and experience from our tertiary care centre into a form that is easily consumable by physicians across the country so that more and more patients can benefit. The AIG Covid-19 algorithm is the result of relentless hours spent by more than 25 clinicians while treating over 25,000 Covid patients, both in outpatient and inpatient settings,” he said, adding that the first patient in the country was diagnosed on January 30, 2020. “Ever since, the entire medical fraternity has been working diligently for the last 585 days and it is time that an evolved, standardised protocol for managing the pandemic is published,” he said.
The book, a comprehensive guide intended for the medical fraternity for bringing in evidence-based medicine for Covid management, will help in ensuring standardised and scientific care which will not only reduce Covid-related deaths but also reduce pressure on the healthcare system, he said.
AIG Director Dr G V Rao, pointing out that India had always leaned on the West to learn best practices in healthcare, said: “The pandemic, however, has shown us that we simply can’t copy-paste the protocols since the virus behaved differently in the subcontinent. Hence, its vital for India to develop its own protocol and highly experienced clinicians at AIG got together to develop the Covid protocol.”
