Ailing boy dies after ambulance gets stuck in Ganesh procession in Khammam

A two-year-old boy died after the ambulance carrying him got stuck in traffic caused by a Ganesh immersion procession in Khammam. His father reportedly carried him on his shoulders to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Khammam: A two-year-old boy lost his life after the ambulance carrying him got stuck in a traffic jam caused by the Ganesh procession in Khammam city.

According to sources, the deceased, Vaibhav Naik of ST Colony in Bonakal in the district, had been suffering from fever for four days. Initially, the boy was admitted to a hospital in Vatsavai, NTR district, Andhra Pradesh.

As his condition deteriorated, he was brought to a private hospital near the old bus stand in Khammam on Thursday. As doctors were not available there, his parents, Bhukya Saidulu and Vijayalakshmi, decided to move him to another hospital.

They set out in an ambulance for a hospital near the ZP Centre, located about two kilometres away. While the ambulance was en route, a Ganesh immersion procession was passing along the same path, causing a massive traffic jam.

The ambulance, carrying the critically ill boy, became stuck in the congestion. Growing anxious as time slipped away, the father, Saidulu, took his son out of the ambulance and ran towards the hospital, carrying him on his shoulders.

Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors examined the boy, Vaibhav, and confirmed that he had already died. Overcome with grief, the parents wept inconsolably, saying that their son might have survived had they reached the hospital in time.
