AIMIM leader Jafri new Pro-tem Chairman of TS Legislative Council

Hyderabad: Syed Aminul Hasan Jafri, floor leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has been appointed as the Pro-tem Chairman of Telangana State Legislative Council. Governor Tamilsai Soundararajan issued orders in this regard, asking him to perform the duties of the Council Chairman including administering the oath of the office to the 12 newly-elected MLCs and also facilitate election of the Council Chairman.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao finalised Jafri’s name after consulting with AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. Jafri was selected for the post after the term of previous Pro-tem Chairman V Bhoopal Reddy expired on January 4. He had been serving in the post since June 4, 2021, after former Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy demitted the office earlier last year.

Jafri will be the first Muslim candidate and first AIMIM leader to hold the post in Telangana. He has been serving as the Council member from Hyderabad Local Authorities’ Constituency for the third term since 2010-11 in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council. His current term will expire in May 2023. He also a well-known journalist with decades of experience in various newspapers.
