Hyderabad: The All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) appears to have started its preparations for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections with the party MLAs and MLCs increasing their visits and reaching out to the people.
In the last one month, in several areas, developmental works such as new roads, water supply lines and sewerage line works have started. A party worker described it as an indication that the party wants the pending civic problems to be resolved before the GHMC elections.
In several areas such as Hussainialam, Fateh Darwaza, Falaknuma, Bandlaguda, Jangammet, Yakutpura, Dabeerpura, Lalithabagh, the authorities are taking up road construction works. “After six years we are getting a new road in our colony. The message is apparently clear, the GHMC elections are round the corner,” said Anwar, a resident of Jangammet.
The MIM MLAs are regularly meeting officials from GHMC, HMWS&SB and the power department to speed up the pending works. On the ground, the MLAs along with senior officials of government departments are regularly holding padayatras and meeting the public to listen to local issues.
AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig has been meeting officials of various departments on a regular basis and seeking immediate redressal of public complaints, while Yakutpura MLA Jaffer Hussain Meraj is spending a lot of time in his constituency that has numerous civic issues.
The MIM had a tough fight in the Yakutpura constituency in the recent assembly elections, with Jaffer Hussain Meraj winning by around 800 votes against MBT party spokesperson Amjedullah Khan. The MBT claims to have gained a considerable base in Yakutpura and according to sources, the party will field candidates in the coming GHMC elections.
In the Nampally constituency, the Congress and the AIMIM are leaving no stone unturned, with both eyeing the GHMC elections to bag maximum seats in the constituency. Several civic works were taken up in the last few months in the Nampally constituency by local MLA Majid Hussain.
“There is tough competition between the AIMIM and the Congress. Congress leader Feroz Khan and MIM MLA Majid Hussain are devising a plan of action to bag more seats in the coming GHMC elections,” said Mohd Jameel, a local resident of Bazar Guard.
The AIMIM, in the last GHMC elections held in November 2020, won 44 seats and hopes to increase the number in the coming elections to cross the 50 mark.
