Mancherial: Doctors of Agastya Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) Hospital successfully performed a rare yet complex surgery on a youngster who severely fractured his leg when a tractor he was driving got overturned, here on Tuesday.

Dr Yeggena Srinivas of AIMS said that they accomplished in one of the rarest and toughest surgeries on Raju, a 25-year old native of Anandapur village Kannepalli mandal, who sustained multiple injuries on his right knee and suffered profuse bleeding when he came under the wheels of the tractor. He was admitted to the hospital in critical medical condition.

Raju’s life was saved by immediately transfusing blood and shifting him to the operation theatre within 12 hours after admitting into the hospital. We performed a surgery using the most advanced method limb reconstruction and Masquelet technique in a single stage. No doctor carried out the surgery and recorded the procedure on journals of the medicine in India, Dr Srinivas informed.

“It’s the rarest and the most advanced surgery. Masquelet technique was used for performing the surgery. Antibiotic cement spacer was placed in the spot where he lost bones. He can walk on his own and do his activities. Usually, the medical procedure used to treat this case involves multiple surgeries that take quite a long time,” the senior orthopedic surgeon claimed.

Srinivas said that he and his team were lauded by veteran and prominent orthopedic surgeons of Hyderabad and several parts of the country for successfully performing the surgery. He added that the cost of the service was considerably cheaper than that charged in Hyderabad.
