Hyderabad: The flying of an aircraft over the Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, Tirumala on Thursday, has created a flutter.

Images and videos of an aircraft hovering over the temple in Tirumala went viral on different social media, triggering debates and arguments as to why the Centre does not declare Tirumala as no flying zone.

As per Agama Shastra, aircraft, helicopters, drones and others are not permitted to fly over the sanctum sanctorum of the temple of lord Sri Venkateswara in Tirumala. Further, it raises security concerns for the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Vigilance and Security wing.

The TTD management has been appealing to the Civil Aviation Ministry to declare Tirumala as no flying zone but there has not been any positive decision in this regard so far.

The Director General of Civil Aviation has not officially declared the Tirumala airspace as no fly-zone, and airlines and chartered aviation companies tend to avoid flying over the temple considering the immense religious significance of the temple. However, incidents of helicopters and aircraft flying over the temple airspace continue to occur.

Now that Telugu Desam MP from Andhra Pradesh Rammohan Naidu is the Civil Aviation Minister, devotees are hoping that the issue would be resolved permanently.
