Hyderabad: Describing the State budget as impressive and progressive, AIMIM Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi wanted the Telangana Government to focus more on minorities’ welfare and development. In the last three years, not a single rupee was sanctioned through Minorities Finance Corporation. While, allocations to SC, ST and BC welfare were steadily increasing in every budget, there were no considerable allocations to minorities’ welfare, he said.

During general discussion on budget in the Assembly here on Wednesday, he complimented Finance Minister T Harish Rao for presenting an impressive budget. Despite the Central Government’s discrimination towards Telangana and attempts to create hurdles in development, the State Government registered significant achievements in different fields, the AIMIM floor leader said.

However, he wanted the Finance department to do homework before presenting the budget. In the last Assembly session, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had said since 2014 nearly Rs.6,512 crore was spent towards minorities welfare. “In the budget speech, the Finance Minister said Rs.6,644 crore was spent but as per our calculations it is about Rs.7,736 crore. Actually, the Government should have announced this amount,” Akbaruddin Owaisi pointed out.

Welcoming the Rs.500 crore allocations for taking up Metro rail works in Old City, he said the decision would now clear all the apprehensions among people over execution of the project from MGBS to Falaknuma. But it was disappointing that government did not make any allocations for MMTS Phase II, despite repeated requests, he said. “I am your friend and consider it as constructive criticism. While, good work will be appreciated, failures will be pointed out. In the next term, you will return here and so do we,” Akbaruddin Owaisi said, pointing to the treasury benches in the House.
