Mahabubabad: District Collector K Shashanka said that all eligible persons would be given the right to forest podu lands under the Recognition of Forest Rights (RoFR) Act in the district.

As a part of the district administration’s efforts to create awareness on the process of submitting applications under the RoFR Act, the Collector held meetings with the authorities and villagers at Kothathanda hamlet of Ramachandrapuram Gram Panchayat and Pandipampula hamlet of Bayyaram mandal on Tuesday.

Addressing the meeting, Shashanka said that each farmer, who has been tilling the podu lands, can apply for the title under the RoFR Act. He said that the FRC committees had been set up in the villages to look into applications submitted by farmers, adding that a sub-divisional level committee at the mandal level and district level committee at the district level would also examine the application before granting the titles.

“Farmers, who were cultivating the land before December 13, 2005, are entitled to get the rights,” he said and added that two applications must be submitted by the farmers to get the title. “One of the two is must be endorsed by the village elders,” he said.

Responding to a request at Pandipampula, the Collector said that passbooks had been issued for 9,000 acres of revenue land against the total of 16,000 acres. “Of the remaining 7, 500 acres, 3,500 acres are revenue land and the farmers can apply for 4,000 acres under the RoFR,”
